MetaWerx Hosting Features
This page lists information about our standard hosting features, and the server environment your site will be hosted in.
We have high-powered Windows 2003 servers running Tomcat and IIS, and Linux servers (Ubuntu - based on Debian), running Tomcat and Apache. Servers are housed in the Primus Corporate Data Centre, Melbourne CBD, Australia. The data centre is connected to the internet through redundant fibre links to the Primus and Telstra networks, and other major Australian carriers. Redundant electrical supply from two separate city power feeds is protected with dual backup diesel generators ensure power is on 24/7. The total bandwidth available to the data centre is over 2000Gbps (2000 gigabits/second). This is one of the largest data centres in the Southern Hemisphere. All shared servers are kept at a low CPU and bandwidth load ratio and have redundant NIC cards, power supplies, drives and fans.

Standard Application Support
- Servlet, JSP and Cocoon support on Tomcat 4.1, Tomcat 5, Tomcat 5.5, Tomcat 6.0, JBoss 4.0/4.1, with JDK 1.4, JDK 1.5 (Java 5), or JDK 1.6 (Java 6).
- XML, Struts, JDO, Log4j, Hibernate, Spring and most other java-based technologies are supported
- Dedicated Cocoon 2.1 shared VM for XSP and XML template-based sites
- For larger applications requiring their own VM, we have a range of memory sizes available on Windows and Linux.
- Command-line based VM's are also available for full flexibility, and include metawerx monitoring, logging and restart capability.

Backup
- Daily backup of your website's physical files.
- SQL Server: Hourly transaction log backup (48 hours worth), daily (7 days) and weekly (2 weeks) full backup of your database(s), allowing us to restore your database to a wide range of previous states.
- MySQL Server: Master/Slave replication used for MySQL, ensuring up-to-the-transaction backups of your MySQL database(s) on a 2nd server. Additional daily backup of MySQL databases, with HotBackup for INNODB.
- All daily backups are to a 2nd server to protect against loss of backup data in case of complete loss of your primary system.

Server Hardware / Internal Redundancy
- High performance servers (either 2 x Dual-Xeon 2.8Ghz CPU's per server, 2 x 3.06Ghz, 2 x Dual Core 3.20Ghz CPU's)
- 2-drive SCSI drive arrays with RAID-1 hardware drive mirroring, or 3-drive with RAID-5.
- Minimum 2gb RAM (some servers 4gb)
- All drives are SCSI or SAS (not IDE/SATA)
- All hardware is genuine Dell
- All drives are Seagate or Fujitsu
- Dual power supply, with each supply connected to one of the diverse power feeds in the data centre
- Dual network card, with most servers using 2x1Ghz NIC teaming, for NIC / ethernet cable / switch-port redundancy and increased bandwidth between database server and customer servers
- Upstream 2x100Mbps connection ports
Monitoring
- Disk space monitoring
- Monitoring and automatic reset of each service based on TCP/IP tests, transactional tests and CPU-usage tests
- Hardware monitoring including RAID hard-drive alarms, temperature point alarms, fan speed alarms, redundant power failure alarms, memory warnings and CPU voltage alarms
- Automated reset of critical services and/or servers to provide maximum uptime
- 24/7/365 service monitoring
- Alerts sent to support staff for any warning or failure condition, or after automatic resolution
- Servers are able to repair almost all common problems without any human intervention
Scalability
